Wander Often. Wander Always.

Meet Cooper!  He turned 3 years old in February.  Cooper loves the outdoors!! I suggested we have his photo session at this amazing park I have discovered called "Silverwood Park" in St. Anthony, MN.  I've taken my son there a few times and he seriously cannot get enough of that place!  Seems there is always a new discovery there :)  We ended Cooper's session inside the cafe at the park. It was only 33 degrees out so he was a good sport to start!!

Children need to get outdoors and play. Period.  So often these days kids are glued to their T.V.s and video games.  I recently came across an article on that states they are now calling this a crisis and gave it the name "Nature Deficit Disorder." Recent studies have shown that kids who play outside are smarter, happier, more attentive, and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors.

Here are a few reasons why nature is good for kids' minds:

  1. It builds confidence
  2. It promotes creativity and imagination
  3. It teaches responsibility
  4. It provides different stimulation
  5. It gets kids moving
  6. It makes them think
  7. It reduces stress and fatigue

"Time in nature is not leisure time; it's an essential investment in our children's health (and also, by the way, in our own".  ~ Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods: Saving our children from Nature-Deficit Disorder.

We all have those memories from childhood: jumping into a cool lake on a hot summer day, intently watching ants on the march or spending hours just laying back and looking at clouds. And whether we realized it or not, those moments in the outdoors helped shape our views on the world around us.  But those kinds of memories are fading fast for many young people today. The statistics are alarming: in a typical week, only 6% of children ages 9-13 play outside on their own and kids 8-18 spend an overwhelming 53 hours a week using entertainment media.

Contact me to schedule your session for your child! Let's get them outside!! Let's create new and fond memories for them to have to look back on :)
